We are the Confidence Queens!

Mission Statement

We are the Confidence Queens and we are a group of six leaders from Los Angeles, California. We are high school students who attend Animo Pat Brown Charter High School and we have chosen to focus on health and wellness, more specifically self-love. Self-love is caring about yourself and embracing yourself, flaws and all. Self-love is important because before you can love anyone else you have to be able to love yourself for who you are.

This spring we taught a six-session curriculum for students who attend our feeder middle school, Animo Florence-Firestone Charter Middle School, who wanted to learn about self-love and the significance of it.  We taught the curriculum over six weeks and focused on a different objective during each session, but they all connected back to the concept of self-love and self-acceptance.

The second part of our project was designed to educate students in our own high school about self-acceptance. Inspired by the Dove Real Beauty print and television campaigns in recent years, we will be creating our own photography exhibit featuring the female students and staff of APB, who were photographed wearing no make-up. We photographed any female student or teacher who chose to participate and agreed to display their photos in a public space on our campus.

With these events in the middle school and our high school, we hope to build more confidence in students. We will measure this by giving the girls a survey at the end of the course. We also hope to see students spreading awareness with what they have learned from the events. We expect students to use our lessons as guides to help guide them through situations where they may experience self-doubt and insecurity.
