About us.
Animo Pat Brown is located in the Florence-Graham community of South Los Angeles. In our community, a big issue we saw was the lack of confidence and self-love among young teens, especially among girls. Social media has a negative impact on girls and young women because it portrays an “ideal image” that affects teenagers' emotional health and ways of thinking. It is time to teach the youth that the perfect body or perfect group of friends or perfect life does not exist and that they shouldn’t feel like outsiders if they think that their experience doesn't match up with what they see on social media.
In response to these issues we have observed in our community, we named ourselves the Confidence Queens and have dedicated ourselves to spreading awareness about self-acceptance and helping both pre-teens and teenagers gain confidence. Our project focused on helping middle school girls in our community accept who they are. We also created a photo campaign in our own school to highlight the unfair expectations society places on females and their physical appearance.
